by now the news that hwachong had somehow miraculously lost 1-0 to VJC, and miraculously because we really shld have came out with something, i'm sure we are making heads turn in the local soccer scene this season. no longer pushovers, we are now heard and noticed.
but today i want to pay tribute to our captain, greg. 30 mins or so into the match he was down injured, and the first thing our coach did after attending to him was to turn to the bench and ask us to call for an ambulance, while we watch our captain, fallen but definitely not out, almost immobilized on the pitch. i tot it was a head injury. but equally as bad, he broke his hand at 2 parts. 2 fractures. and there and then i just felt really sad for him. i never seen him cry in anguish like they way he did today. but wad i really admired abt him was that despite all the pain he was in, the only thing on his mind was the team. and only the team. cheering and spurring the guys on. he appeared strong, and i really really hope he is, for i wasn't. and looking at my captain's strength really, he's an inspiration.
i rmb last yr when i conducted leadership sabbac with clarinda chioh, she always said that the mark of a true leader, is when he is not around his team can still function, as good, if not better than if he was around. i'm just so glad that even after he left for the hospital, our team did not crumble, and fight on right to the final whistle. really, today, more than any other day, i feel proud to be part of HwaChong Soccer team. Pushovers no more, the season looms ahead.
